Chester The accents sounded unusual, but the presence of wallabies established the general location (New Zealand?). There are only three characters and, basically, the mystery and suspense come from not knowing how much of the weird goings on is due to the main character's imagination (from isolation and childhood trauma) and/or the supernatural and/or the creepy caretaker. I added a half a star because of the last fifeteen minutes, but the biggest surprise in this movie was that they still make film for Polaroid Instamatic cameras. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review L G Too many horror tropes that they tried to jam into the movie to make it a horror mystery thriller and in the end it ended up being none of those. Had potential but fell apart early on. Young protagonist woman takes a job as a caretaker for an elderly disabled lady on a remote island who has lost most of her motor functions, currently one of her family members lives on the island and takes care of her. We learn her troubled past and a few other intimate details about her life etc etc creepy stuff ensues. The majority of the movie is much too dark to make out anything of detail in the shots, no real horror ensues and a really crappy twist at the end of the movie that makes no sense... It's free on Tubi if you're really interested in watching it, but for me I think this is a good movie to skip. If you'd like to know why I disliked the plot of the movie so much keep on reading the spoilers below: SPOILERS BELOW We learn that the protagonist has been doing live-in carework for the elderly for some time and her last "patient" died while under her care. When she arrives on the island the old lady she is supposed to take care of has fresh full makeup on her face LOL despite being immobile and having only her nephew (or some relative) on the island with her. Enter lights randomly turning off and fuses blowing... protagonist walks around with a flashlight and freaking out at everything and turns out the immobile old lady can somehow move because when the lights turn out she will randomly show up in the attic or down by the jetty or something. We get intermittent flashbacks of the protagonist's childhood as she had to hide from her abusive relatives and that has an effect on her current mental status. The old lady's nephew turns out to be a creep and has been taking revealing photos of the innocent damaged protagonist, she freaks out and wants to leave the island -understandably so. The movie is telling us that the nephew is the bad guy, here's his coming out party... Aaaand here's the twist -- protagonist actually takes all these caretaker jobs to kill the elderly people she takes care of because she believes it's better to be dead than to live in the state they're in. Turns out she's evil all along, and she kills the old lady on the island and I think knifes the nephew too... I kind of stopped paying attention. Feels like a huge slap in the face when in the last five minutes of the movie the script goes "Oh yeah, forget everything we told you about her being a good girl with emotional trauma she's actually the murdering villain."
