Salvator Mundi (The Savior of the World) became the world's most expensive painting when it was sold at Christie's for $450 million in 2017. Attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, the painting unleashed passions while revealing the excesses of our time. But is it really the work of the Italian genius, or one of the greatest scams in the history of art? A modern tale of globalization, SAVIOR FOR SALE delves into the secrets of the art world and explores the influence that one painting can exert on personal and geopolitical interests.

Glenn Kenny New York Times "Savior for Sale" provides an object lesson in the ways a moviemaker's perspective, or agenda, is expressed. Sep 21, 2021 Full Review John Serba Decider Savior for Sale has a lot of ground to cover, and does so adequately at best. Vitkine banks on our fascination with the topic -- which frankly should be considerable -- and ends up with a sloppy but watchable doc with noble aspirations of journalism. Audience Member you can tell how important a movie is by if it changes your behavior after you see it. after seeing this movie ive resolved never to see another documentary on a big screen. its like watching the a and e channel, only on pay per view, and the topic was much more boring than i would choose to watch at home. i have to admit, i didnt know this painting existed. i wish i had had the foresight to accept that theres some things im better off not knowing about. we already knew idiots with other peoples money love to use it to show how important they are, i didnt need to see a feature film about it.
