Jorge Loser Espinof This vision of Lev Atamanov is simply essential for any lover of classical animation or for those who want to enter a completely new and pure children's cinema universe. A masterpiece. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 16, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member As unknown as it may be, "The Scarlet Flower" is a wonderful tale. It holds an honest mystery, and transports us into a world that is both different and familiar to ours. "The Beauty and The Beast" has here been revisited, in a movie from the 70's which calls itself "sovjet". So here we go about 30 years backwards, and see a movie that manages to take us in a very convincing, strange place. Of course you can't mention modern special effects, but the film creates a very unique atmosphere by mixing beautiful but weird visuals and a very intimidating soundtrack. Though it is filmed in a very simple and charming way and has some sort of "practical sense" in the creation of effects, like the superposition of two shots to create a ghost. Most of the images are extremely beautiful, many resembling the ones you can see in Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon". It is said to be a children's movie, but in some ways, it can prove to be a bit disturbing and difficult to understand : there are many philosophical references and ideals, therefor it is more destined to an older public and makes it extremely interesting to watch. "The Scarlet Flower" is an enchanting movie that blows you away due to its breath taking visuals and its unique atmosphere.
