Luke Buckmaster Guardian The best family movies awaken the adult in the child and the child in the adult. This one mistakes colour for creativity, pumping its surface full of vim and vigour but letting the writing wither on the vine. Rated: 2/5 Oct 30, 2023 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) With allowances made for a limited budget, any random five minutes of Scarygirl would look good on an animator’s showreel. Soon, though, I began to wonder how far the many creative contributors were ever on the same page. Rated: 2/5 Oct 28, 2023 Full Review Stefan Pape Common Sense Media The film may have a lot to say, but the best messages find their way to the viewer when dressed up within a fun and engaging narrative, and this just feels a little too frenetic and convoluted at times. Oct 3, 2024 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times It's garish, loud, and exhausting, but also strangely good fun. Rated: 3/5 Aug 8, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney Loud and Clear Reviews It is a positive that Australia is reaching into the world of larger scale animations using local talent. Dec 8, 2023 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment Don't let the fact this is Australian put you off it looks equal to Pixar or Dreamworks. Deals with complex, modern issues in a fun and easy way for the whole family. It will entertain all. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 28, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Simon P Good entertaining family animation Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Aileen C Saw this on Blu-Ray (a gift from a friend) and was really surprised at how beautiful it looked. The characters were different to what I've seen on other animated films. It was also a very positive film and I related to the message of managing expectations from your parents. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Giorgia M Fantastic, mesmerizing! I love how the art and sensitivity the movie are true to the original creator of Scarygirl (Nathan Jurevicious). The visual are just stunning, and it really paint wonderfully the unique settings and characters. Enjoyed very much the designer toys references like the seams on the characters! So glad this is here. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Joe L Refreshingly original! A wonderful and visually stunning movie based on the illustrations, comics and vinyl toy designs of the great Nathan Jurevicious. It delivers a fantastic story with remarkably unique characters. It has Nathan's fingerprints and sensibilities all over it. Quite an inspiring achievement! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Brent M From the very first moment things begin to spring to life, ‘Scarygirl' is a phenomenal visual delight that's difficult to describe to those unfamiliar with creator Nathan Jurevicius' ‘Scarygirl' books, artwork, games, vinyl figures or other short films. Psychedelic-like colours fill the screen with strange characters and wondrous settings the entire time and draw you in to the beautiful, mysterious world of ‘Scarygirl' in an almost hypnotic manner. Animated in a way reminiscent of stop-motion films gives it great depth and a very three dimensional look, that also reflects the appearance of Nathan's past vinyl figures & mini figures / sets. The casting is as equally stunning, particularly Jillian Nguyen who was perfect as the voice of central character, ‘Arkie'. As was Deborah Mailman as ‘Treedweller' and Sam Neill as ‘Dr.Maybee'- with Dr.Maybee even kinda resembling Sam Neill (or vice versa?) at times. I also loved Mark Coles Smith as ‘River Bandit', who not only speaks but also makes some great crazy noises, that along with 'Rebel King', voiced by Dylan Alcott, are referred to together as the ‘Wild Boys'. A beautiful story that is visually compelling and sonically brilliant with a wonderful cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review V A My kids and I loved watching this Australian animated film. The characters were fun and the gorgeous worlds created were amazing! My son particularly loved Bunniguru. Highly recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
