Steve D There are some good ideas here and it works better as drama than comedy. However having the kid be perfect at baseball makes the entire thing eyerollingly stupid. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a guilty pleasure. Is it "good"? No. Is it enjoyable? Yes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review william s If you look at it as a nice little comedy you'd be lying to yourself and besides I hate the friggin Yankees. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Have on DVD!!!!!!!!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member After another scout bust, Al Percolo (Albert Brooks) has been sent to South America by the New York Yankees to find baseball talent. Somehow he miraculous comes across Steve Nebraska (Brendan Fraser) in Mexico who is the best player he has ever seen. Things are not as easy as it seems as it is clear that despite the undeniable baseball talent, Steve Nebraska is not all there mentally. The Scout has some decent moments, and Albert Brooks does his best, but this is a shallow comedy that just falls flat on comedic and emotional levels. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review adam s Not bad, kind of amusing, but definitely ran out of steam along the way. Anderson Jones Detroit Free Press The last in a long series of baseball flicks this year, this one's the most believable. Yet it still doesn't quite manage to hit one out of the park. Rated: 3/4 Apr 26, 2022 Full Review Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: B- Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Richard Schickel TIME Magazine The Scout is the best comedy-fantasy about baseball ever made, which goes to show that if Hollywood keeps trying, eventually someone will get it right. Aug 12, 2009 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies There's no doubt that The Scout could be a stronger film but filmmaker Michael Ritchie and the cast make the best of it. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Strikes out as drama, but has a good eye for comedy. Rated: B- Mar 18, 2023 Full Review TV Guide An amusing comic premise, mixing baseball and psychiatry, gets lost along the way in a film that displays much evidence of post-production tampering.
