Namrata Joshi The New Indian Express There’s hope in this bittersweet film. That all won’t be lost, that the messed-up relations will resolve, the scraps and squabbles will lead to harmony, and happiness will come to prevail. May 14, 2025 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety The well-acted, confidently crafted indie “Scrap” probes messy family dynamics with low-key but taut acuity, avoiding the usual poles of dysfunctional-clan comedy or high drama driven by yelling matches and shocking revelations. Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Nell Minow RogerEbert.com As a screenwriter, Kerr has a deep understanding of her characters and the complex dynamics of the relationship between Ben and Beth. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Cody Allen The Curb By the end, Scrap lingers with you not because of melodrama or spectacle but because of its humanity. Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Alise Chaffins Movies We Texted About ...while Scrap isn’t a movie specifically about the unhoused crisis, the film approaches that reality with compassion and honesty. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 12, 2025 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said Given the limited information we’re given, it’s a bit of a puzzle, God forbid Beth straight talks. Kerr’s really pulled off something that could have been problematic. Well worth a look. Rated: 3/4 May 2, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Amanda C Sharply written and quietly touching indie about co-dependent siblings that gives a powerful lesson on how shame causes us to hide when we most need help. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Lana A Seriously amazing acting!! Vivian Kerr as Beth is out here giving what’s probably the most overlooked indie film performance of 2024. Her emotional depth, willingness to lean into Beth’s selfishness and sarcasm, is beautifully aligned with an equally incredible performance by Lana Parrilla as lawyer Stacy, going through IVF and struggling with her desire for motherhood. Lana is so soft and vulnerable in this! Her scenes at the Doctor's office convey without words the pain and fear so women deal with when it comes to infertility. Her every gesture and facial expression were perfection and made me cry. Stuck between them in Anthony Rapp as Ben, wanting to help his wife and sister, and not sure how to do it. This is a film that puts difficult relationships front and center, full of authenticity and heart, and leaves you feeling so much empathy for this dysfunctional family. Truly an incredible film! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 1.75 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Nadya K Vivian Kerr crushes it as a triple-threat writer/director/actor. Her performance as Beth would be incredible even if you didn’t know she wrote and directed the screenplay. But knowing that, it makes it that much more personal and deeply felt. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Anfisa P I cried! Great film with a terrific ensemble cast and some strong writing. With an unflinching commitment to exploring the unlikeable aspects of hot mess protagonist Beth (Vivian Kerr) and uptight control-freak Ben (Anthony Rapp), Vivian Kerr's Scrap is a deeply poignant drama about siblings that is patient and funny, and allows its characters the space to screw up, learn, and (slowly) grow over the course of 105 minutes. A remarkable first feature. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Iain J Scrap certainly shows the bleak side of LA, but it also gives us rays of hope. Sometimes literal, a beautiful beam of light at sunset or a clear blue sky above Griffith Observatory, but also in the gentle, unspoken moments between estranged siblings Ben and Beth. This movie “gets” LA, warts and all, and made me nostalgic for a city I thought I’d long left behind. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Read all reviews
