To hide her pregnancy, 17-year-old Claire (Lola Naymark) leaves her family and her supermarket job to work under seamstress Madame Mélikian (Ariane Ascaride). The practical arrangement -- Claire's assistance in exchange for an isolated place to make a living until her baby is adopted -- becomes something deeper: Creative Claire learns from experienced Mélikian, while the older woman's grief over losing her son is slowly assuaged by helping the young woman bring a child into the world.

Michael Wilmington Chicago Tribune This is a film for the happy few perhaps -- but that audience will find it eminently satisfying. Audience Member Another little movie focused on women's world: although women work hard, they work for life and to give birth to something...a baby or a family or a beautiful embroidery . Whatever will be, will be a masterpiece. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I'll just quote from my favourite movie blog: "Why is French cinema able to deliver films which other country's movie industry wouldn't even think about producing unless under torture?" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a slow moving film that feels as awful as Juno but this girl at the end does something more productive during her pregnancy. The movie is a fine work of art. The knitting is wonderful. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member The main actress is GORGEOUS. Slow, sensuous, quiet. A very typical french filme. And that's why I love them! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Film of subtle, ephemeral pleasures. Tranquil, patient and noiseless. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member A well done character study, this follows a young woman dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. Claire (Lola Naymark) hides her pregnancy from her friends and family as long as she can and even changes jobs to prevent discovery. The job change provides Claire with the sanctuary she needs to begin to come to grips with her situation and to sort out her options, even as she helps her new employer come to grips with her own tragedy. The young actress captivated this viewer. She is quite beautiful with the most luxurious head of red hair this viewer can remember seeing. But her ability to communicate her hidden emotions non-verbally was extraordinary. Ariane Ascaride played her employer, Madame Melikian, and brought a quiet dignity to the role of a mother dealing with the loss of a child. The supporting actors offered solid performances that fleshed out the story. Some lovely scenery and interesting camera work complete the package.
