      Critics Consensus

Kathleen Turner proves an ideal match for John Waters' suburban satire in Serial Mom, even if the somewhat scattershot end results often lack the expected bite.

CJ C John Waters achieved a perfect balance of camp, shock and humor with a great cast of actors in what i believe could be the pinnacle of his career. It all comes together perfectly and it has become one of his best movies in my opinion. Not to be missed! Kathleen Turner is genius in her role! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review bill p Quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen, and I've sat through some clunkers. Everything is way, way over done, from the plot to the dialog to the facial expressions. I know, I know, it was made that way on purpose, but it just doesn't work. It's not funny, it's just infantile. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review georgan g This cult classic is clear-eyed commentary on how Americans & their media view crime. Kathleen Turner absolutely *makes* a nightmarish woman who is truly a scream. The entire cast does great acting which all equals to a very, very funny film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jaime h freaking hilarious! love it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I absolutely love this movie! I own it on DVD and watch it quite often whenever I need a "pick-me-up" --- it sure does make me laugh! So entertaining, ridiculous and I love the cast. I looked this movie up on Wikipedia and was disappointed to see the movie was a financial failure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member To me, this is the only John Waters film that is worth watching. Wasn't corny, had some clever and funny moments, and the acting was actually pretty good from everyone. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader Nevertheless, there’s an undeniable pleasure in finding a comic imagination based so exclusively on personal quirks and predilections, even when it’s less than wholly adept in telling a story. May 8, 2008 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn There's no many redeeming qualities in this. It was pure nonsense. Rated: 1/5 Jan 29, 2024 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn This was a chore to get through. It was painfully unfunny and at times incredibly gross. Rated: 1/5 Jan 29, 2024 Full Review Kristin Battestella InSession Film The murderous pursuits are filmed in full horror suspense, yet debates on whether the Mrs. needs a lawyer or an agent and selling t-shirts at the courthouse invoke a bemusing sensationalism.
