Max Tracey (Leslie Howard) is an affable head waiter at an exclusive London hotel. While working, he falls in love with Sylvia Robertson (Elizabeth Allan), a beautiful woman of wealth. When Sylvia leaves the hotel for a skiing trip in Austria, Max follows her, and, with the help of a monarch (George Grossmith), poses as an Austrian prince. Sylvia begins to fall for Max, but when his true identity is eventually revealed, she is unsure if she can still love him.
