Critics Consensus

Settlers is serious to a fault, but viewers seeking a non-sensationalistic look at space colonization may find this a rewarding voyage.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Times (UK) There is life on Mars and it's a godawful small affair, according to this determinedly sombre sci-fi film. Rated: 2/5 Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Linda Marric New Scientist Above all, what sets this production apart from the rest is its unflinchingly honest and bleak view of the human condition. Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Settlers isn't perfect: some of the storytelling beats aren't hit as clearly as they could have been. But it's a quietly impressive piece of work. Rated: 3/5 Jul 28, 2021 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) This film that looks at life in the frontier of space is painfully frustrating. Rated: 2/5 Aug 10, 2023 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast Settlers leaves far too many questions unanswered. Ultimately making for a frustrating narrative experience. Rated: 2/5 Nov 12, 2022 Full Review Alex Welch Inverse Wyatt Rockefeller’s slow-burn sci-fi Western will keep you on your toes. Oct 24, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Doron C Had the pleasure of working security for one of the lead actresses of the movie and boy did they work hard to get out what is on screen, in heat of 52°C at times , scorpions and other creepy crawleys .. well made with an honest view of what it "could be like" taking into account human nature. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Brend E When faced with the option, rent or buy, I chose rent, because the ratings were low. What I found was a riveting and suspenseful story that unfolded in a way that made you feel uncomfortable. You're faced with the vulnerability of a family with a small child in a fight for survival and it's thrilling. I don't think the ratings are accurate, I should have bought this, not rented. I am here to pick the score up a little bit. Good acting, great pacing and an immersive start that worked well and set the fictional world up in a way that feels believable before they went ahead and started the mayhem. This movie wouldn't be as good without the start, the start was what made this movie work. However there was a lot more than that they got right. Thoroughly enjoyable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Jeffrey P Pleasantly surprised by this one, with solid acting and good focus, Settlers has good emotional range and depth in a unique setting with a small cast that still manages to create good tension and suspense as it tells the story of Remy, her parents... and Jerry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review Larry M I don't watch movies just to see hours of depression, and suffering, with absolutely no point to it. I think whoever wrote this might require psychological help. I watched to the bitter end, thinking there must be some point to it. Nope. No point whatsoever. I know it sounds Cliche, but I truly would have enjoyed polishing my shoes for an hour and 45 minutes, more than than. At least the time spent would have had a motecum of value. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review Nunya B There's "slow burn" and then there's "can this be over now?" This movie is the latter. Interesting premise. It would probably make a great short story. (Like... five pages?) But as a feature film? No. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/02/23 Full Review Bradley B Typical apocalypse and survival movie where no one works together and all wants to kill each other with no means of success in the end. Just constant fighting instead of helping each other survive. Also bowing to children instead of educating them in the reality of the situation you are in.
