Grim and morose, Seven Pounds is also undone by an illogical plot.

Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express Not only is the idea so far out to be only fiction, it is so sadly executed that you can be pardoned for thinking Will Smith has remade Hancock, with less booze, more heart but as many powers and apparently as much grief. nafiz i Critics confuse me. Give them a straight/linear storyline and they say it's boring. Give them a film about rising from ashes (e.g. Pursuit of happiness) and they say it's too cheery/fairy tail tinted. And then the same ones, when they see, a compassionate, realistic portrayal of a man suffering after his momentary lapse of focus while driving leads to a body count of 7 dead and leaves him scarred for life, they it's too convoluted and give it an aggregate rating of 26 on RT! For me, and given I watched the film a full 16 years after it's release, it was a masterpiece, ably supported by a cast who portray the helplessness and the anxiety that life sometimes puts you in, perfectly. Yet, they all have hope. The blind, vegan call center rep for a meat seller, played with the usual excellence Woody Harrelson brings to all his roles, still hopes to impress the waitress at a local eatery with his piano skills; the girl with a terminal heart condition plays a game of what if with her lover, dreaming of more time and children. And the catalyst for all their dreams: Will Smith. In a performance I would rate as more rounded than his Oscar winning gig, he portrays the role of an Uber successful MIT engineer suddenly hit hard by the reality of the aforementioned accident with heart. He demonstrates both the desire for making amends (by literally helping people with his organs), and the agony of what it means for him humanly. After all, isn't that what we all want: a human story with a touch of miracle, a dash of tragedy and an everyday hero, who starts a mission of redemption for a crime no greater than checking his phone for a couple of seconds while driving? Top class! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/24 Full Review Susan B This movie gave me a sleepless night. If you are squeamish like I am, do not watch it. I know it was supposed to be inspiring, but that didn't happen for me. Before the big reveal, it was just confusing. I kept wondering: What is going on, why am I watching this? Even the love story didn't really engage me. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Audience Member Amazing performance by Will Smith once again. Movie stayed in my head forever. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Faiz D Will Smith give a truly moving performance. It makes me cry every time I watch it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Muhammad Hanzalah A It's a shame that the critics didn't like this film, whereas the audiences, including myself, really enjoyed this film.... Enjoyed might not even be the right word to describe this film. It's a movie that pulls you in from that first scene and then slowly builds up to what I think is a very satisfying and also sad ending and justification for all the actions in the film. This movie is a slow build up, but just trust the process, and don't focus too much on the pure logic aspect of the film. Instead, let it guide you through a plethora of emotions. It almost brought me to tears many times. Critics are saying that the premise of the film is too unrealistic, but the thing with this film is that even though the premise is unrealistic, it pulls you right in. I long to see films like this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Estevan G A powerful drama featuring my favorite actor, Will Smith, in a deeply moving role. Smith plays Ben Thomas, a man on a mission to redeem himself by helping seven strangers. The film explores themes of sacrifice and forgiveness, with Smith delivering a compelling and emotional performance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
