Delmore Schwartz The New Republic Despite the script's cleverness, the presence of Tom Ewell, who is a first rate comedian and Oscar Homolka, who has long been a first rate actor, the entire film continually misses fire and fizzles out, like defective fireworks. Jan 23, 2013 Full Review David Parkinson Empire Magazine Very dated and not consistently funny but famous for the iconic Marilyn air-vent shot and a close to the under-wire smuttiness. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2009 Full Review Variety Staff Variety What counts is that laughs come thick and fast, that the general entertainment is light and gay. Aug 15, 2007 Full Review George N. Fenin Film Culture The Seven Year Itch is another step down in the career of the talented director. Mar 30, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins There are chuckles to be found, though they're not as memorable as Monroe's costume changes or the iconic sequence in which she stands over subway vents in a white gown. Rated: 6/10 Mar 24, 2021 Full Review Virginia Graham The Spectator This is a wonderful comedy performance. So too, somewhat surprisingly, is Marilyn Monroe's. Ed . 70 Year Ditch 70 years later, the humor is either dated or perhaps always nonexistent. Ewell's character is intentionally juvenile and perhaps accepted for laughs at the time but doesn't cut it for me. It's not due to being PC, but rather the childishness. I appreciate Tom Ewell's comedic talents but not the character representation. Monroe's performance is what you expect: entertaining and demonstrating an intelligence in navigating a man's world at that time. If made today, you know the female would be rushing to stand on that grate sans underwear and sans class. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Rami A I don't think the comedy holds up well. There are a lot of moments that make you cringe. I think I only laughed a few times, but that was from Marilyn Monroe, who was the only interesting part of the movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/25 Full Review Carlos T Fell asleep watching it. Marilyn’s good looks only reason I don’t rate it a one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/14/25 Full Review Aino K I got first-minute ick from all the men in this movie. I give 1 star for beautiful set design and 1 star for absolute gorgeous Marilyn Monroe. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review alan g If it wasn't for Marilyn Monroe's iconic subway grate scene this movie would have been forgotten a long time ago. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
