Audience Member Ocho (Reiko Ike), is a gambler and pickpocket in Meiji Era Tokyo. After sheltering a fleeing anarchist, Ocho runs into the three gangsters responsible for her father's murder, each identified by unique tattoos on their backs (a deer, a boar, and a butterfly). A European spy, Christina (Christina Lindberg), arrives on the scene and complicates matters... "Sex And Fury" has an interesting mix of b-movie violence and soft revenge pornography. The film belongs to the exploitation sub-genre Toei Pinky Violence, which were films made by the major Japanese studio Toei in the early 1970s which mixed sex and violence. "Sex And Fury" has an intriguing revenge plot while swordplay and nudity is more or less the added elements. This film was Quentin Tarantinos inspiration for "Kill Bill" which is quite obvious when you see it. Christina Lindberg looks a bit lost in her role (and to be honest not really an actor), while the Japanese exploitation star Reiko Ike is truly great as the beautiful halfnaked cool sword wielding heroinne. This was the first of two films in which Reiko Ike played the character of Inoshika Ocho.I didn´t know what to expect when I bought this film, but I did like it. Trivia: According to Christina Lindberg, while on a plane to Stockholm, she was approached by two Japanese men who asked her if she would be interested in working in Japan. Her reply was "why not" and soon afterwards she was in Japan working for Toei. She spent two and a half months in Japan, appearing in "Sex and Fury" and later in a larger role in Sadao Nakajima's 1973 film, "Porno Queen: Japan Sex Tour". Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review dustin d This is one of the great Japanese exploitation films of the '70s. It is stylistically amazing, but it is also thoroughly ridiculous. Thoroughly and stupidly entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The most frustrating films are the ones that squander their potential. I didn't go into the film with high expectations, but the first thirty minutes of the film are surprisingly good. There's fine cinematography, a wonderful lead in Reiko Ike, some entertaining music, a fun premise and a setting rarely seen in film--the tail end of the Meiji period. Not to mention, it's fun seeing a film that so obviously inspired Quentin Tarantino. But in equal measure, every sex scene is non-consensual, the story is nowhere near as interesting as it should be, the script gets really muddy toward the end, the film mentions and then promptly drops Christina Lindberg's inner conflict, and every scene in English is cringe-worthy. (I can give Christina Lindberg a pass for not having great English, but her American counterpart sounds like he is speaking his lines phonetically.) I'd love to see a remake or another film heavily inspired by this without some of the nasty sexual violence. (I suppose you either find a bruised, half-naked woman in chains being whipped against her will arousing or disgusting.) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Originally picked this up for the Christina Lindberg connection, but it's a really enjoyable flick overall, both leading ladies are very good in their roles and obviously down for whatever the Exploitation role required. Great stuff, give it a look! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting is often poor and the music is comically dated, but Sex & Fury is still an excellent grindhouse revenge film with, at times, stellar cinematography. Tarantino fans will enjoy this Kill Bill source-film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A classic Japanese Pink/Expolitation Film.
