Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times A powerful and distinctive commentary on the addictiveness of violence. Rated: 4/5 Sep 27, 2012 Full Review David Hunter Hollywood Reporter A confusing mess where the characters' actions make little sense and the finale is particularly noxious. Oct 12, 2001 Full Review Scott Bernard Nelson Boston Globe Better than the vast majority of martial arts films and represents a strong debut by both Sandler and Swampscott director Ziad Hamzeh. Sep 28, 2001 Full Review David Nusair Apollo Guide An insipid, terminally stupid kickboxing movie that even Lloyd Dobler himself would have trouble recommending. Rated: 16/100 Mar 19, 2003 Full Review Rick Kisonak Film Threat All in all, a watchable, worthwhile example of its genre, the picture offers a timely anti-violence message. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 8, 2002 Full Review Bridget Byrne Boxoffice Magazine It ends up a broken, fractured version of what it might have been, rather than the intelligent, poetic drama it aspires to be. Audience Member I must have known from the box cover with the man fighting the woman. That this wasn't a typical boxing movie. The tone was so melodramatic I thought it would have ended with the woman having to resign, cause of cancer or a brain tumor and that the coach had to take her place. That didn't happen. *spoiler* It was an ending I wouldn't have expected. She actually beats her opponent to death. Gets flashes of anger goes on a rampage after being taken in the hospital and kills her coach. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Great fight scenes acting is average to good Sarah Isenberg plays the part extremely well and should have gotten a top billing, The movie itself disappoints at the end and becomes slightly twisted and dark. Some KEY or interesting points in the movie were just mentioned matter of factly and the director should have put much more emphasis or Drama on the fate of the male boxer she faced I was expecting either a real shocking ending or a poetic victory towards womens struggle in society of which i got neither However the end of the story was a bit of a shocker but left questions The actual end of the movie the last scene was stupid and the movie should have ended in the park . Either way the movie is an entertaining somewhat unpredictable movie Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
