Thought was an intriguing movie but the plot was eventually lost on me. Seemed a bit vague as it ended. Still an interesting watch.

Another spooky Scandi film. Quite absorbing, lots of arty camera work and deviant teenage behaviour. I don't think any of it will stay with me though.

WOW....WOW....WOW.....SAD..SAD SAD MOVIE.......I have just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is such a powerful drama movie 2 watch.....its got a good cast of actors/actresses throughout this movie.....I think that Adam Lundgren, Sergej Merkusjev, Isabella Lindquist, Linda Molin, Mathilda Paradeiser, play good roles/parts throughout this movie......I think that the director of this western/drama/art house/international movie had done a great job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie.....
She Monkeys was produced as part of the Swedish Film Institute's Rookie Project, a special pot of financial support which only could be applied for by debuting feature-film directors. Inspirations for the film included a picture of Shirley Temple and the book Story of the Eye by George Bataille. Casting of the lead actors took four months. The filmmakers needed to find girls who not only could act, but also met the requirements of the physically demanding roles
The film premiered on 31 January 2011 at the Gothenburg Film Festival. Several festival selections followed, including Berlin where it screened in the section Generation 14Plus, Tribeca and Karlovy Vary. The earliest regular release was in France, where ASC Distribution launched the film on 3 August 2011. The Swedish release is set to 2 September 2011 through TriArt Film
Alissa Simon of Variety called the film "one of the most intense and complex feature debuts to come from Sweden since Lukas Moodysson's Show Me Love", and wrote: "Aschan's provocative visual language links pleasure and pain as she focuses on the arousing nature of unpleasant things. Carefully framed compositions that are near cliche (a father cuddling his young child, a babysitter helping a youngster with teeth brushing) take on fresh significance. ... Just as remarkably, Aschan draws convincing, naturalistic performances from her young non-pro actors while putting them in highly charged situations."
At the Gothenburg Film Festival, She Monkeys received the top competition prize, the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film, with one million kronor in prize money. It also won the festival's FIPRESCI prize. The film received the award for Best Narrative Feature, World Narrative Competition Section at the Tribeca Film Festival. Linda Wassberg won the prize for Best Cinematography at the Transilvania International Film Festival in Romania.

Subtle and controlled but there are dark desires and plenty of suppressed rage buried deep beneath the surface. A rather mysterious film, great debut.

She Monkeys (Apflickorna) Swedish film directed by Lisa Aschan. Starring Mathilda Paradeiser, Linda Molin and Isabella Lindqvist.
Emma (Mathilda Paradeiser) is 14-year old girl, she is sensitive, living with her father and 7-year old sister Sara (Isabella Lindquist). Emma meets cassandra (Linda Molin) when she joins an equestrian gym team - Cassandra makes some predatory advances as well as troubles for Emma to counter, slowly two develop friendship, and instead of hooking up with boys, Cassandra reserves Emma for herself only. Emma's 7-year old sister Sara is budding and she's in love with her cousin.
She Monkey's a project from Swedish Film Institute. I was astonished to see such subjected films coming out being funded by SFI, I think sub-plot like that of 7-year old Sara could not be welcomed in other continents of the world such as Asia, North America etc, where girl of this age chooses to talk about her genital parts, and sees horses mating, and ultimately dances to seduce her cousin who is several years older than her.
She Monkeys, barely succeeds to establish its goals or install questions on panel for the audience to think about, but I don't that that culture of Scandinavian countries could be well-taken seriously in other parts of the world - especially with billions of population living in Asia, who adhere to unique standardized understanding of social-conduct.

thought the final twenty minutes or so kinda faltered after a superb start but it shouldn't deter one from watching this rather admirable directorial debut.
quietly powerful, the movie conveyed volumes when much was left unspoken. had me riveted, the kid actress did a real fine job.
don't expect this to be everyone's cuppa though.
