At its best, it’s quite funny. At its worst, it’s mildly disgusting, with Moss suffering its most egregious indignities, but Minghella does recover his wit in time to bring Zoe’s role in the mess to a fitting finish. Go to Full Review

If only Shell was as outrageously fun as that all makes it sound, but there’s something oddly flat about it, actor-turned-director Max Minghella struggling to bring the luridly indulgent pleasures that something as silly as this so obviously needs. Go to Full Review

As gnarly as things get, director Max Minghella and screenwriter Jack Stanley maintain a keen feeling for farce. Go to Full Review

The film takes some amusing jabs at our overreliance on technology while making a straightforward statement on women, aging, and outrageous beauty expectations. Go to Full Review

Absol M @Absolmo 11h CULT CLASSIC IN THE MAKING! See more Eisha L @Eisha80 2d Finished it because I’m not a quitter See more Andrew S @Andrewfev 4d Shell explores the familiar theme of chasing youth and beauty through a mysterious treatment that quickly goes wrong. The problem is we’ve seen this idea done much better before, from the dark comedy of Death Becomes Her to the far more extreme body horror of The Substance. Where those films commit to their tone, Shell feels strangely unsure of itself. Moments meant to be disturbing often come across as unintentionally funny, and it’s hard to tell whether the campy absurdity is deliberate or simply poor execution. There’s an interesting idea buried underneath, but the uneven script and confused tone hold it back. In the end, it’s a concept that’s been done before and done far better. See more Larondeb T @Larondeb 6d I don't know why I decided to watch this but I have to say it did keep me watching. The ending ruined everything! I mean Chloe turned into a giant lobster?? Was this supposed to be funny?? It was just stupid! Other than that if you have nothing better to do, you might want to try it. See more Doug L @Kidlid Mar 3 Shell attempts to weave a high-concept narrative but ultimately collapses under the weight of its own pretension. What was likely intended to be a provocative exploration of identity and vanity instead manifests as an incoherent, embarrassing jumble of half-baked ideas and tonal inconsistencies. The film suffers from a fundamental identity crisis, oscillating between heavy-handed satire and unintentional comedy. With a script that feels more like a rough draft than a finished product and direction that lacks any clear vision, the experience is less of a cinematic journey and more of a tedious endurance test. It often tries to be "elevated horror" or "social commentary" but ends up feeling silly. It prioritizes a certain "look" while neglecting basic logic or character motivation. Wasted Potential: There’s nothing more frustrating than a cool premise being buried under poor execution Save your time and skip this mess... some shells are better left empty. See more Dennis B @TheBeaz2000 Feb 18 Know going in that this is one of those movies with a great premise, and it is actually interesting until the writer and/or director either got lazy or ran out of money. Moss's The Invisible Man had such a great ending, but this one is just terrible. Hudson is still eye candy, and I wish the second half of the movie was as good as the first. See more Read all reviews
