Matt Brunson Film Frenzy There's real complexity at work. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 31, 2021 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A well-acted, folksy, sentimental and respectable Civil War drama. Rated: B+ Jun 28, 2014 Full Review Dan Jardine Apollo Guide A successful film not just because of the marriage of the right actor in the appropriate genre, but also the timely infusion of challenging questions about a nation at war. Rated: 76/100 Jun 28, 2007 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Set in a Virginia farm during the Civil War, this popular family film offers all-American star Jimmy Stewart a classic role, a widower with six sons who initially refuses to takes sides or get involved in the conflict--only to learn otherwise. Newell F This is a must watch classic film! It treats the horrors of war well without having to resort to extraordinary violence. It also models well how a family can support each other in good times and bad. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review CodyZamboni Movie features one of James Stewart's best , most committed performances, as he goes from pacifist to pissed off protective father. As the tragedies pile up, watching how Stewart responds gives this movie grit and insight. He anchors this compelling Civil War story with many famous faces in supporting roles, with a standout being George Kennedy as battle weary Yankee commander. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/23 Full Review Garth A One of the best American films of all times. It is interesting that the part of "Boy Anderson", was played by child actor Phillip Alford, who played Jem Finch, the son of Atticus Finch (played by Grefory Peck.) Though Alford only was in a few films, both "Shenandoah" and "To Kill A Mockingbird" remain among the best films dealing with race and American history. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/10/23 Full Review Sean A Overall, a mediocre film. Too many themes are pursued at once. The film starts as a comedy and then forces itself into a tragedy in the last 15 or so minutes. The foreshadowing of tragedy was poorly done. The film is too cute and sentimental for that sort of twist. Without Jimmy Stewart's humor, this film would have one less star from me. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/23 Full Review Kevin B Worth watching I enjoyed it Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Tom M I'm not quite sure why the 'wisdom of the crowd' rated this so highly. It's okay, but nothing all that great. The trite social & cultural perspectives were amusing / horrifying. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
