Gareth v An absorbing and powerful documentary that shines a much needed light on all the good the Sherpas of Nepal do for foreigners and the complete lack of respect many show towards them for what they do. Brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Joe V The movie was ace, a really good watch. However, i couldn't help but feel that the western expedition operator was out of line
. I feel like the sherpas expressed their feeling in ways that the westerners ignored. The westerner was blaming the cancelled expedition on other sherpas who threatened to break his team sherpas legs if they went up the mountain seemed wrong. The sherpas don't seem to express their emotion much to the westerners and just take the bullshit that the westerners throw at them. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Tense insightful look at the realities of climbing Everest Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/21/21 Full Review Audience Member Lost a little momentum in the final third but up until then pretty interesting stuff. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm making a conscious effort to try and watch more female-directed films; I seem to have a penchant for mountain themed documentaries so this is next in line. This documentary focuses on shining a spotlight on the work of the sherpas of Nepal who have been underappreciated for the services they provide to those wishing to climb Mount Everest. Essentially this film highlights another example of indigenous people being exploited for profit by the western world. Lots of these people rely on this mountain climbing tourist business to make their living, but are only paid a tiny fraction of what these companies make in return for regularly risking their lives. This is epitomised by the expedition leader who is completely dismissive of the sherpas anxieties and reservations of climbing after an accident that killed 16 of their fellow workers. Indeed, directly after the accident, he seems more immediately concerned about how this will affect his business and income rather than the fact people have just been killed. People who value money over human life really are awful. On a technical level, the film is lovely with some beautifully captivating photography and lushious musical score. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Manny P Quite literally "The Elephant On The Mountain". I have nothing but the utmost reverence for the original Sherpas, ever since I was a little boy and hearing the story of Hillary, but they are still treated with contempt to this day. I have nothing but derision for the well heeled "clients" who literally don't lift a finger, right down to being spoon fed every day of their expedition. What happened was horrific and to see the bodies being brought back to base camp, hanging from a long line, rendered me quite emotional. The faux indignation of the camp leaders didn't wash I'm afraid. The original Sherpas now have larger fights to deal with : Sherpas with an education ( aka Nepalese entrepreneurs ), neighbouring corrupt governments and the ongoing battle with Chomolungma. To emphasise the indifference of the New Zealand Expeditionary ( Russell Brice ) and I paraphrase here " we don't know how many are dead or unaccounted for ?" Then why was their transponders scanned OUT when leaving for Camp 1 ?! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/21 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Stephen Romei The Australian Sherpa is different and arresting: it's an old-fashioned documentary that allows the participants to tell their stories. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 1, 2016 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Sherpa is an accomplished, gripping film. Rated: 4/5 Dec 27, 2015 Full Review Katie Smith-Wong Flick Feast Overall, Sherpa is a thought-provoking, beautiful yet unbalanced documentary. Rated: 3/5 Nov 18, 2019 Full Review Nick Evan-Cook One Room With A View Simultaneously arthouse-beautiful and fiercely political, this will set jaws agape both through its stunning imagery and its objective portrayal of its complex cast of interviewees. Rated: 4/5 Apr 9, 2019 Full Review Matthew Anderson CineVue The blend of slow motion imagery and accelerated time lapse photography along with the use of multiple cameras instils Sherpa with an evolving vibrancy, reinforced by a stirring orchestral score which heaps ever more emotion on knife edge proceedings.
