Mindy A On the strength of Pauline Kael's endorsement, I saw "Shoot the Moon" when it was first released, nearly 40 years ago. Bo Goldman's screenplay, especially, knocked me for a loop. This week, I saw the movie a second time--and it seems EVEN BETTER. The cinematography and editing, the marvelous acting by both the professional actors and the kids, the powerful emotions the film excavates: awesome is my only word for them. I saw the film this time at a Pauline Kael festival, put on by the Quad Cinema in Manhattan. Just one screening. The film is rarely screened, maybe because it's too painful. But what a validation of Kael's passion for the movies. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/19 Full Review Read all reviews
