Anton Bitel Little White Lies Writer/director Orson Oblowitz has lovingly crafted a feature presentation as meta-cinematic as it is nostalgic, conjuring a dying breed of scuzzy old-school cinephilia in an age of digital uniformity. Nov 17, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety “Showdown”... provides a good time. That fun will be heightened by whatever knowledge of 1970s and ’80s cult genre films you bring in with you. Nov 7, 2023 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian [A] misty-eyed, sentimental, sometimes silly love letter to cinema. Rated: 3/5 Nov 6, 2023 Full Review Jonathan W. Hickman The Newnan Times-Herald Writer/director Orson Oblowitz relies on Dolph Lundgren’s B-movie prowess combined with a devoted Terrence Howard performance to deliver a genuinely entertaining and stylish actioner. Rated: 7/10 Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) Oblowitz has created an interesting story about being passionate to the point of obsession... This works because of the casting of Howard who makes Fuller an extremely textured character. Rated: B Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com It’s a loose viewing experience, but Oblowitz has his moments, presenting a bruised valentine to the escape movie theaters provide. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/25 Full Review Monsieur F Love letter to old school cinema and grindhouse against a capitalistic organisation and its henchmen. Unfortunately even the short running time of app. 90 min doesn‘t prevent this movie from boredom and at no point the director succeeds in creating tension or suspense. The movie is ok, the actors have fun, the director celebrates its idols, but for me this love letter doesn’t work that well like “Cinema Paradiso“ or “Last Action Hero“. Nonetheless, of you like some nostalgia about the old cinemas and some 70s and 80s references, then give this one a try. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/06/25 Full Review Sean O Dolph steals this movie with an under played charm that borders on genius. Terrence Howard is at his best as the proprietor of a run down, once grand theater that hosts the aging action star for a film retrospective of his bloodiest best. Lots of good bits and mindless mayhem where the duo battles corporate baddies bent on turning Howard's beloved movie palace into shopping mall parking. Great fun! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Jarrod R What is a masterpiece? When a kid makes one of those handprint turkey creations in first grade where the eye is not quite in the right place and the feathers are all wrong but you stick it up on the fridge anyway with the Punta Cana magnet you got on your girls trip, that's still a masterpiece. If a piece of art stirs something up from the depths of your very essence, maybe, just maybe, that could and should be considered a masterpiece.
Such is the way with Showdown at the Grand. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Jimmy T I love the story and the acting. Pace was slow and the camera angles do hurt the story. Otherwise I would of given it a higher rating. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review few m could've been epic, but was rather subdued Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
