In a film devoid of a single scary moment the only truly frightening thing here is watching any of them try to convey an honest human emotion... Go to Full Review

Shrooms may seem great while you're under its spell, but once the drugs wear off and you wake up, it fades pretty quickly ... Still, it's not a bad trip while it lasts. Go to Full Review

Besides a few swell looking shots, this movie is just garbage. Go to Full Review

From the distorting lens used randomly to suggest unreality, to the twist ending lifted verbatim from the superior High Tension, it's about as imaginative as a portobello steak with onions. Go to Full Review

Sep 22 My wife and I are the type of people who watch a lot of b-movie shlock just for an excuse to hang out, and I'm not gonna lie - I bootleg all of our media. Nothing's free though, and even when you download rips you still pay for it in time and in this case - spent patience. "Shrooms" was hands down one of the most boring, and tedious films I've seen in a while. From the drab setting, to the constant gray/blue graveyard filter, to the tiresome horror movie tropes and one dimensional character archetypes, everything here is a big steaming pile of "meh...". All the characters other than Jake (Jack Huston) are varying degrees of obnoxious, ranging from the slightly annoying Holly (Alice Greczyn) to the completely insufferable Lisa (Maya Hazen). This is one of those films in which the characters have psychological episodes (due to mushrooms) where you're supposed to be in the dark as to what's actually real or not. Normally this is a weak narrative device because if you can't tell what's real, then nothing really resonates. Here it's even worse though, since the movie is so predictable that you can easily figure out what's actually happening the whole time. It's one of those movies where you hope everyone dies because they suck so bad, but in "Shrooms" the audience is even robbed of that simple pleasure since all of the kills are either fully off-screen or heavily obfuscated by psychedelic BS. This all leads up to a predictably sucky ending that is nonetheless in keeping with the film's character. It becomes hugely obvious where the plot is going about 20 minutes into the film, none of it is actually that scary and the acting is really average at best. There is some cool environmental ambience, but mostly it's just panning shots of woodland intertwined with badly acted murder scenes and very expected jumpscares. Sorry Shrooms, I know you tried.
