Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It's true that Shudderbugs is a psychological thriller, however, it's a unique thriller that defies the genres usual expectations. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 2, 2025 Full Review Rich Cross Starburst Shudderbugs deserves attention for its inventive and emotionally perceptive approach to the craft of atmospheric indie filmmaking. Rated: 3/5 Apr 3, 2025 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Shudderbugs” tells a deeply resonating story about coming to grips with loss and trying to move forward. It’s a story that’s rich with feeling, full of evocative imagery, and driven by an aching and soulful lead performance from Putnam herself. Rated: 4/5 Mar 28, 2025 Full Review Alise Chaffins Loud and Clear Reviews The death of a parent [...] has been explored in film numerous times. But in her debut feature, Shudderbugs, writer and director Johanna Putnam does something that we don’t see very often: she takes her time. Rated: 4/5 Mar 26, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

B H Confused why this was listed as a “thriller”??? More a story of loss and coming to term rather than anything thriller. If anything that’s deterring people from watching it. That said another reviewer nailed it by saying it is a pointless film. More of an acting piece of work for Johanna Putnam, which I felt did a fine job and the only reason why I gave it 3 stars. She carries the film which is lacking so kudos to her acting skills. Watch it if bored and need a brain palette cleanser before starting something else. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Michele K Very slow and kinda pointless. Not much of a plot. A woman’s way of coping with the death of her mother. And that’s it. I wouldn’t recommend this one unless you need help sleeping. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Patrick O Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzźzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............ Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Nelson T An indie gem! Shudderbugs has such a great understanding of the natural world around it - months after seeing it at a festival I can still recall all of the cool sights, sounds, and creatures that surround Samantha in this psychological thriller. Johanna Putnam is an exciting voice in the truly indie film scene and this is a great film to see both as a movie lover and to spark inspiration for how to make a great feature with limited resources. Go see it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/25 Full Review Read all reviews
