      Critics Consensus

Fatally undermined by a clichéd, confused plot and a total absence of thrills, Shut In wastes its talented cast -- and viewers' time.

Tana if you love thriller books, you're gonna love this movie. It's not a slow start in the beginning, it puts you through a rollercoaster of emotions and makes you guess what could be going on the entire time, just to be surprised in the end with the huge plot twist. I loved it, I wouldn't call it a horror movie, but a thriller. It was so well written when it comes to making you guess what could be going on, just to shock you in the end, that I thought it was based off of a book. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review donnie m trying to watch but horrible acting-no idea what this is about..... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Dani It was okay watts character was poorly written and the whole movie was poorly written the only thing saving this movie is watts and heatons acting like watts character says she wouldn't replace her son then she did by the end of the movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Landon J Overall pretty slow and dull for most of the film. Fast forward to the final 30 minutes. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/22 Full Review Audience Member Really dumb movie. I had to fast forward through spots. The whole premise that her son would pretend to be paralyzed was ridiculous and then that he would become a killer added insult to injury. I'll watch to the end but it's a total waste of my time. Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's low-key and modestly budgeted, but perfectly well made, and Watts maintains a cool and steady presence. Rated: 3/5 Feb 23, 2017 Full Review Valerie Complex Black Girl Nerds This movie is bad. It's hilariously bad. The horror elements are wasted frivolously on silly jump scares including raccoons, dramatic grabbing of body parts, and every other horror trope in the book. Rated: 1/5 Nov 20, 2016 Full Review Rex Reed Observer There isn't one genuine thrill in the whole thing. I've had bigger scares from my goldfish bowl. Rated: 0/4 Nov 16, 2016 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...an exceedingly deliberate and predominantly uninvolving endeavor... Rated: 1/4 Feb 19, 2023 Full Review Jordy Sirkin Jordy Reviews It I'd say leave this to a film you pick on a night you want to stay in, and possibly fall asleep to. Jan 2, 2021 Full Review Ricardo Gallegos Pólvora You will probably fall asleep before getting any sort of scare. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 2, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
