Mary Portman (Naomi Watts) is a widowed child psychologist who lives in isolation in rural Maine. The horrific car accident that killed her husband also left her 18-year-old stepson Stephen (Charlie Heaton) in a bedridden, catatonic state, leaving him completely dependent on her. When one of Portman's young patients vanishes without a trace, she becomes convinced that the boy's (Jacob Tremblay) ghost is now in the house as a dangerous ice storm starts to wreak havoc outside.

Jason W The twist was way too obvious and ineffective. The constant waking from night terrors sequences became redundant. It had some minorly entertaining suspense in the third act. All the main actors including Watts, Platt and Heaton were good, but it couldn't save much of the film. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review M B This was a very poorly written plot. It's not a slow start in the beginning, it puts you through a rollercoaster of emotions and makes you guess what could be going on the entire time, just to be surprised in the end with the huge plot twist. I loved it, I wouldn't call it a horror movie, but a thriller. It was so well written when it comes to making you guess what could be going on, just to shock you in the end, that I thought it was based off of a book.
