A perfect couple rents a holiday home on a sunny Italian island. The reality does not live up to their expectations when they find out that the pool in the house is broken. Ignorant of the fact that the island faces water shortage, they ask for someone to fix it. The constant presence of a stranger invades the couple's idea of safety and starts a chain of events, which makes them act instinctively and irrationally, heading to the darkest place in their relationship.

Anton Bitel Little White Lies Silent Land plays very much in the key of Austria’s Michael Haneke, chillingly exposing class entitlement and the aloofness that the rich maintain – even in an emergency – from the grubby mortality of the poor. Rated: 3/5 Sep 20, 2022 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org Resisting any need to make overt judgements, in Silent Land Woszczyńska confidently steps back and lets us make our own call about the moral questions her film prompts in her compelling, enigmatic debut. Oct 21, 2021 Full Review Joshua Polanski In Review Online Silent Land bores by reveling too much in its own insincere cleverness, even if Woszczyńska and her filmmaking team show promise as visual thinkers.  Jun 5, 2024 Full Review Hilary A White Sunday Independent (Ireland) Subtle, sly imagery quakes loudly around the impossibly picturesque couple, as slow-panning shots depict an uncaring world turning away in the background. Rated: 5/5 Sep 28, 2022 Full Review Graham Fuller The Arts Desk The film is a caustic allegory of Western indifference in the face of the global humanitarian catastrophe. Mark B A movie that challenges the viewer to reflect on their own internal monologue the importance of communication and the impact on our lives when we fail to adequately communicate our inner feelings or hard truths. Silent Land shifts the viewers focus from infrequent conversations and slowly shifting tempo of natural scenery and the evolving emotional toll the couple are working through. While dialogue is sparse, its characters present us with a full quiver of emotions to reflect on, as well as asking some moral questions, while at times offering touches of whimsy. Ambient sounds filter through the emotional ebbs and flows of the couple's relationship troubles which blend in the natural, barren but aesthetically pleasing landscape. The sound edits to blend in waves and wind to achieve a balance between the music score and dialogue works well. I really enjoyed this, one that leaves the viewer plenty to contemplate.
