isla s This is a pleasant watch, with some amusing moments. The plot is a little quirky but in a charming way. I felt the main character has a certain naivety, a little perhaps like Amelie (from the film of the same name). I like that the main character also provides narration, so we hear her thoughts sometimes, when she's not on screen. I liked the bright colours on display via the characters fashion choices and the areas scenes are shot in - its a bit more interesting than grey Britain, in any case(!). It did become a little bland and mundane perhaps half way through but it then became what, to me, seemed like an analogy. Its somewhat contemplative and overall I enjoyed it, so I'd recommend it but I wouldn't say its one of my favourite world cinema titles, its a reasonably good watch, with some nice aspects (as ever, its a good piece of escapism, which is perhaps what appeals to me most in terms of world cinema in general) but its not especially memorable or great as such.
