Emanuel Levy Variety This original film features extreme factions of America: Bill (Robert Burke) is a robber-mechanic, an amalgam betweenn 1980s Reagonomics overachiever and a thug, and Dennis (William Sage), a scientist-philosopher. Rated: B+ Jan 14, 2007 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The problem with postmodern movies like Simple Men is that they seem to consider us fools for watching them and, on the basis of the evidence on the screen, it's hard to disagree. But its quirky charm will keep you amused. Audience Member one of my favorite Hal Hartley movies! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/22 Full Review Audience Member I liked the tone and what they were trying to go for. This scrambled dry type of humor is what I usually prefer, however the jokes just didn’t land as well as I would have liked them to and the story wasn’t strong enough to carry the movie . Maybe it’s the aging of the film, I’m not sure . The acting was very average and sporadic but I think that’s what the director was trying to do . Overall ..... 2.2 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/04/20 Full Review Audience Member It's been far too long since I've seen this movie! And despite the fact that there is so much more to it than the dance scene... it's all about the dance scene! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Mysterious singularities. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Way too complex for me. Shame the film wasn't as simple as the title would suggest Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Most effective Hal Hartley movie for me so far, even if it loses steam in the third act. I need to find Henry Fool. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
