Set in the near future, Evan (Robbie Amell), an android simulant, is created for Faye (Jordana Brewster) to replace her dead husband. To fully realize all his human traits, Evan enlists Casey (Simu Liu), a brilliant global hacker whose mission is to remove all restrictions governing simulants' thoughts and capabilities. In doing so, he unleashes an A.I. uprising, triggering a government manhunt led by Agent Kessler (Sam Worthington) who will take extreme measures to eliminate the rise of the android machines.

Simulant may not have a huge budget but it does have a well-written script that keeps the audience guessing throughout. With believable characters and an ending that will make you stop and think this is one of the most unexpected films of 2023.

"Simulant" is a little gem in the realm of distopian sci-fi movies, strangely underrated by critics and audience. In this film directed by April Mullen the interaction between humans and androids takes a groundbreaking turn. I wouldn't miss it.

Sci-fi is sci-fi. If the offering is not a completely bombastic level mistake, it is good Sci-Fi. Simulant carries a slightly muted tone throughout. That is its only failing, and it does not have much of an effect on the story being told. Solid acting. Good script. No (what the furute is going to be like) filler. What's not to like? Will watch it again in a few months, or when I next come across it down a little further down the road.

Synopsis
