Its plot hinges on typically implausible horror-movie behavior and recycles countless genre cliches, but Sinister delivers a surprising number of fresh, diabolical twists.

stefan C Real horror scary and gruesome story! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/06/25 Full Review Chief B Honestly this is one of the scariest movies ever.. It's not like the exorcist or hereditary for example but a total different kind of horror movie yet it's a super scary movie and I use horror movies to sleep on sometimes as a background. So I'm not easily scared but this one is... Scary. The score, the atmosphere, the subject matter, the cinematography and of course one of my favorite actors Ethan Hawke are just perfect. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/25 Full Review Jude R. Absolutely horrifying! I have never been so scared watching a movie before. Has to be the most disturbing film I have ever seen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Calvin T That was one of the most creepy, disturbing movies I've ever seen Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Dan A Sinister is basically Ethan Hawke vs. a box of VHS tapes, and the tapes win! Sinister opens with Ethan Hawke making the single worst real-estate decision of the decade: moving his family into a house with a homicide body count that rivals Game of Thrones. His excuse? “Research.” Sure, Ellison — and I only read WebMD for “research,” too. Within minutes, he discovers a dusty box of Super 8 home movies in the attic. Each reel looks like it was filmed by Stanley Kubrick’s evil nephew, featuring charming titles like Pool Party ’97 and Lawn Work ’86 — which, spoiler alert, are less about fun in the sun and more about creative family annihilation. Naturally, instead of running for the nearest Holiday Inn, Ellison decides to sip whiskey in his cardigan and binge-watch murder reels like they’re Netflix originals. Enter Bughuul: a demon who resembles a roadie from a failed Slipknot tribute band. He doesn’t so much terrify as loiter in the background, photobombing home movies with the enthusiasm of a goth kid at a prom. The film is absurd, unsettling, and occasionally hilarious — not least because the scariest thing is still Hawke’s parenting choices. Sinister is less about demons and more about proving that writers will literally summon evil instead of getting a day job. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/25/25 Full Review Jace T The atmosphere that Spinster builds throughout the movie using it's old school found footage style camera reel snuff films, and the looming and dark musical score really up launch this film to the top of horror for it's era. It has a few goofy jump scares and random events that happen that bring it down just a notch. Ethan Hawke does a fantastic job as the main character being a loving, yet narcissistic and ego driven husband and father. The supernatural villain of Bughuul is a very enjoy antagonist.
