After living in the UK since he was 8 years old, Anthony (Patrick Robinson) decides to visit his elderly mother in Jamaica. He has never held, or needed, a passport before and while filling out the paperwork at the Passport Office he is stunned to discover that there is no record of him as a British Citizen--despite having lived in the country since 1965. With the onus on him to prove his British citizenship to the Immigration Office, Anthony finds himself stuck in limbo, forced to leave his job and unable to claim benefits. In the early hours of a Sunday morning, Anthony is forcibly removed from his home and detained as an illegal immigrant. The devastation that ensues puts Anthony at the center of what has now become known as the Windrush scandal.

There was a happy ending, if you could call it that: Bryan was allowed to remain in his own country. But the film left us in no doubt about the emotional toll. Go to Full Review

This was hugely affecting drama, but I would have liked to have seen in it more of the politicians who drove this policy rather than the faceless uniformed guards who had to implement it at the sharp end. Go to Full Review

A gripping, upsetting and tenderly told dramatic memoir of one man's ordeal during the Windrush scandal. Its timing could not have been better. Go to Full Review

Sitting in Limbo doesn't aim to warp the truth, to glorify any one party. This isn't about rewriting history, it's about making sure the true mistakes and hardships are finally given the weight they deserve. Go to Full Review

An absorbing, rewatchable drama that quietly told loud truths, and wore its anger remarkably lightly. Go to Full Review

In a mature and nuanced performance, Robinson movingly conveys that struggle. He's naturalistic and understated, with no histrionics. Go to Full Review
