Boyd van Hoeij The Hollywood Reporter What's there in terms of story thus often feels secondary to a sense of place and character, but thankfully Mudjeci at least reveals an impeccable sense of how composition can suggest emotions and make situations dramatically more dynamic. Mar 1, 2016 Full Review Guy Lodge Variety [Sivas] is distinguished by its muscular technical brio and rich, integral sense of place. As storytelling, however, it's less rewarding, taking rather too long to get into gear and abruptly ending at its most critical point of conflict. Mar 1, 2016 Full Review John Bleasdale CineVue A surprising humanity underpins Sivas, making the film more of a traditional boy-and-his-dog tale than it initially appears. Rated: 3/5 Mar 1, 2016 Full Review Emine Yildirim Today's Zaman (Turkey) Sivas is a must-watch in Turkish cinema this year. Mar 1, 2016 Full Review AP Kryza Willamette Week Despite its stark realism-shot with shaky camera, so you know it's gritty-this Turkish coming-of-age drama is a classic story of a boy and his dog. deniz g the best Turkish movie İ ever see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/22 Full Review Audience Member (Ext. Cosmic Ocean/Urainia rows boat) Urainia: You and I both know I have to vibrate the Vedas for eternity. Apasmara: I feel like you're just repeating yourself. Urainia: So do I. But, when you keep destroying the Vedas through creation I have to come back and repeat them. Apasmara: Aren't you destroying the Vedas? Urainia: (stops rowing and boat floats) Don't be silly. Who is my ego? Apasmara: I am. Urainia: Who fights with me until I destroy my Art? Apasmara: Of course I'm programmed to- Urainia: As long as you're programmed to destroy my Art, I'll be programmed to keep rowing this boat and repeating the Vedas. Apasmara: What do we do? Urainia: I'm not sure. It seems this is what the play is about- (rows) I see a little island over there, it looks like maybe we can get some rest from these dark sees. Apasmara: Yes, please, an island! I would love to place my cobra feet deep in some dream sand! Urainia: Not so fast, Apasmara. I need a vacation from these Vedas. Apasmara: (leans back on boat, kicks up feet and yawns) Oh? Urainia: And as soon as we lay down in the dream sand, you know your little greed takes over and I'm back to repeating the Vedas for eternity, and it's back to the cosmic ocean in our row boat... Apasmara: What can we do about my opposition to mother nature? Urainia: Give it a rest. Apasmara: Do you know any good lullabies? Urainia: Of course. They are all part of the Vedas. https://youtu.be/nohvkBvkKRs Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
