Audience Member You tell them to run...and keep on running to freedom. A Kentucky slave was very loyal to his master. He would run trade errands and always come back with sales, receipts, and great tales of negotiations. The slave is allowed his own area to raise his family. Unfortunately, the owner becomes low on cash and has to sell two slaves, and one of them is the slave with a family that runs his errands. He is sold to a ruthless slave owner and eventually works with the owner's black mistress to help free his people. "You got nothing in common with those darkys." "I got the same master." Herbert Biberman, director of The Master Race, Salt of the Earth, and Meet Nero Wolf, delivers Slaves. The storyline for this picture is fairly straightforward with some great characters. The settings are well selected and executed and the acting is above average. The cast includes Ossie Davis, Dionne Warwick, and Stephen Boyd. "A black baby is worth $200 with its first breath." I came across this movie on Netflix and had to add it to my queue. This was an okay movie but I did enjoy watching the film unfold. The movie is shot well and has an appropriate feel but the overall plot was average. This is worth a viewing but not worth purchasing. "I come back."
