Critics Consensus

Snake Eyes has a number of ingredients that promise a trashy fun time; unfortunately, they're lost in an energetic and stylish thriller with a frustratingly hollow core.

Dale R Starring Nicolas Cage as a corrupt Atlantic City police officer who must solve a murder of the U.S. Defense Secretary. Gary Sinise plays a Navy officer and friend to Cage’s character. As usual, these two deliver a great performance. There is also some great cinematography in this movie, with point of view shots, over the head shots, and some really long take shots at the beginning of the movie. The plot does drag on a bit. As Cage’s character starts to figure things out I thought the end was near, but that just started the third act. There is some great stuff here, but I think that the enjoyment of the movie would be limited to those who can appreciate the cinematography and hang on to the plot until the end. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Farah R The terrible ratings shocked me because I found Snake Eyes a very intriguing and entertaining thriller. The intricate plot and solid performances make up for the film's slow pace. It's not one of de Palma's best, but it's certainly not bad. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review steve d Not great but not terrible. There's alot to like here. Interesting camera work. Classic Nick Cage being Nick Cage. Gary Sinise is always a pleasure. Plots a little thing but still enjoyable. Vastly better story telling than the terrible stuff that's being coming out the last few years. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review SpookySkeleton M Awesome movie, never has a boring moment. While there are some things a little hard to believe, it's still a pretty good movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Jack t Snake Eyes! Even though my brother Daniel saw a person who is from Transformers in this piece of sxxt! The opening is boring, but I do like the sound effects and the part where Nicolas Cage says " To give you a b£££r". It's just a boring boring film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Alan W Brian De Palma directs an unsung masterpiece of suspense. The starting scene catapults us into this world of intrigue with a long unedited scene that plays for many minutes, following Nicholas Cage into this underworld of gambling, drugs, and corruption. This film is truly riveting, and captivates any keen audience. One of Nicholas Cage's greatest performances. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
