Sean Chandler Sean Chandler Talks About Sniper: The Last Stand was my first entry into the franchise, and it was a pleasant surprise. Direct-to-video action movies can be far worse, but despite its budget limits and episodic plot, it delivered all the sniper action and carnage I wanted. Rated: B- Feb 3, 2025 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal There are some obvious frustrations and limitations inherent to the low-budget concern of the whole thing. But the "Sniper" franchise has found a solid — and refreshingly female-centric — groove in its third decade. Rated: 3/5 Jan 23, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Matthew D This would not even qualify as an old VHS release or Redbox throwaway movie. Canadian director Danishka Esterhazy’s action thriller Sniper: The Last Stand (2025) is the usual Netflix slop. Esterhazy’s direction is lifeless like so many of these throwaway Netflix movies. They would all have been dumped in a bargain bin at Walmart twenty years ago. Now it’s just a click, watch, and forget type of movie. The dull conversations that do not have any personality or charisma are mind numbing. Most of the characters don’t even react when someone else talks. Writer Sean Wathen’s generic action story of getting a superweapon away from a dangerous arms dealer is so tired and forgettable. The conversations between the soldiers should have some emotional weight, but everyone speaks in old stories and bland moral statements. It’s like they don’t have a personality. I just hate when a script feels like it could have been written by A.I. because it is so lackluster. American actor Chad Michael Collins is the usual generic action hero. His main sniper Brandon Beckett feels totally soulless. It’s like he delivers every line with the dramatic weight like he’s ordering a pizza. He’s like a poor man’s Josh Hartnett with no charisma. South African actor Arnold Vosloo is so bland and embarrassing as the villain arms dealer Ryker Kovalov. He just yells and looks agitated. Canadian actor Ryan Robbins is alright as the other hero Zero with a bit of personality. He’s like a Canadian knock-off of Jon Bernthal, if he looked like a gritty version of Peter Sarsgaard. South African actor Sizo Mahlangu is decent as the young sniper recruit with talent Zondi. Canadian actress Sharon Taylor is pretty as Hera and a decent soldier character amongst all the tough guys. Canadian actor Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz is somewhat fun as Nova, who strangely only listens to EDM remixes of classical songs for some baffling reason. South African actress Shamilla Miller is steadfast as the sturdy soldier Nadia with a more commanding style. South African actor Vusi Kunene is fairly rigid, but a commanding presence as the boss Modise. Editor David Trevail’s constant cutting is so distracting. The random cuts in the action scenes are so hard to follow. Cinematographer Trevor Calverley’s shaky camerawork is very obnoxious like his constantly panning shots, so that you can hardly ever focus on person talking. Brent Sauls’ flat lighting is like you’re watching a commercial shot in broad daylight. Every set looks like a cheap warehouse. The very few practical effects are fine, but the CGI blood and slow motion zoom-ins for the sniper shots are laughably bad. Composer Andries Smit delivers a truly slapped together war theme with some trumpets. What a waste of 99 minutes! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review SkyRo P "Sniper: The Last Stand" is just one of many sniper-themed films available, predominantly on Netflix. While it stands out a bit from the rest, it still follows a familiar formula and lacks substantial character development, making it less engaging for repeated viewings. From the outset, the plot dives straight into action, leaving little room for the audience to connect with the characters. Early on, many characters are eliminated, and we’re left with only a handful, including a leader who takes charge despite not being the official leader. While it's commendable to see someone step up, the film ultimately fails to flesh out the team dynamics necessary for a compelling story. In summary, while "Sniper: The Last Stand" is an entertaining watch for the first time, it doesn't offer enough depth to warrant a second viewing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/07/25 Full Review LacosteTK N It Feels Like an Episode Of Reacher, Pretty Good Fight Choreography, But Light On Story. Overall Enjoyful And Well Written And Directed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/25 Full Review ARNEZ C It had a lot of good parts The shootout was really good but man did they drag a lot of stuff in this one overdrawn and drawn out but the action was solid it's good if you want to kill a few hours action sequences we're not bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Pierre L leadership is an action, not an position "a leader knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. leadership is an action, not an position." but that the team who chose its chief because its will follow him until the end for its action continues over the death. Indeed, The phrase "efile noma ephila" means "whether dead or alive" ("que ce soit mort ou vivant") in Zulu. It's an important expression in Zulu culture, showing their strength and determination to keep going no matter what happens. It reminds the Zulu people to stay strong and true to their values, even in difficult times. This phrase is used in stories, proverbs, and songs to teach lessons about being tough and staying connected to their community and ancestors. So, "efile noma ephila" is a way of saying that the Zulu people will keep going and stay strong, no matter what. nb: The name "Esterhazy" comes from Hungary. It is connected to a place called Esterháza near Dunajská Streda, which is now in Slovakia. The Esterhazy family started in southwestern Slovakia and became important in Hungarian history, especially with people like Count Nikolaus Esterházy and Prince Paul Esterházy. Count Nikolaus Esterházy (1583-1645) was a powerful nobleman in Hungary. He helped the Habsburg monarchy and fought against the Turks. He became Palatine of Hungary and was important in making Hungary stronger. Prince Paul Esterházy (1635-1713) was Nikolaus's son and the first prince of the Esterházy family. He was a great soldier, fought the Ottoman Turks, and supported the arts. He made the Esterházy family very rich and powerful. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/10/25 Full Review Dave C I don't know if this is what they were going for, but I found Sniper VERY cartoonish. The predictable scene construction, constant corny macho one liner pearls of wisdom and comically unbelievable shooting scenes made me feel as if I was watching a Saturday morning cartoon. I could find no depth of character or believable reminiscing. The only saving grace was the choreography of the fight scenes. With all that said, it was typical mindless entertainment. If that is all that you expect, you won't be disappointed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
