The origin story for one of Peanuts’ most beloved characters, Franklin, follows how he approaches making new friends. Franklin’s family is always on the move with his dad’s military job, and everywhere he goes Franklin finds support in a notebook filled with his grandfather’s advice on friendship. But when Franklin tries his usual strategies with the Peanuts gang, he has trouble fitting in. That’s until he learns about the neighborhood Soap Box Derby race. According to his grandfather, everyone loves a winner! He’s sure that winning the race will also mean winning over some new friends. All he needs is a partner, which he finds in Charlie Brown. Franklin and Charlie Brown work together to build a car and in the process become good buddies. But as the race nears, the pressure mounts — can their car and their newfound friendship make it to the finish line?

“Welcome Home, Franklin” isn’t going to make anyone forget the Christmas or Halloween specials. But it tries to right a wrong and does the right thing. It’s a nice addition to the canon, and it shines a light on what “Peanuts” used to be.

One scene seemed to be a departure from the character of Charlie Brown. Other than that, this is basically a great addition to the Charlie Brown franchise. And it's too bad that it took this long for the character of Franklin Armstrong to get spotlighted.

I thought this was one of the best Peanuts specials in a long time. A heartwarming story that really focuses on Franklin's backstory and his friendship with Charlie Brown. All of my kids really enjoyed it.

Just laughed, and cried (in all the right ways), my way through "Welcome Home, Franklin" Haven't watched a Peanuts cartoon in probably well over 25 years, and that was nothing less than delightful. Hilarious (Snoopy forever!), exceedingly timely, and heartfelt as they come. Themes that every child, and adult, are bettered by. Fun and positive reflection for all ages. Itty bitty spoiler alert beyond this line... I mean... Who could possibly resist how cool Franklin introducing Charlie Brown to John Coltrane is?!?? His explanation of the Jazz riff, and them groovin' together, is absolutely priceless!! Huge kudos to the writers! Well done!!

Franklin is new to town and hoping to make friends, but his usual tactics don't work on the Peanuts gang. When the Soap Box Derby arrives, he's sure it's a chance to impress new pals and teams up with the only other unpartnered kid: Charlie Brown. 🍿 Meh, it passed the time 😉 It's ok, but I feel mixed about this one 😉 I'd recommend it if you like this genre, but if not then probably give it a miss 👍🏼👎🏼
