Audience Member Some moments of grace in this film that announces the emergence of a solid Chinese director with a real soul. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member (***): Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The 4th feature by Xiaoshuai Wang, one of the 6th Generation Chinese filmmakers. Like films by Ye Lou and Zhangke Jia, Wang successfully creates a special atmosphere in the film - especially the color of the images that almost can be distinguished into film noir is worth to check out. Wang, however, seems to lack originality being bound between Ye Lou, who is good at creating a story, and Zhangke Jia, who intends to exclude fiction. Indeed, the story of this film is too simple and really weak, and images are not as vivid as ones of Jia. If you compare this to films of Jia and Ye, you surely feel unsatisfied somehow. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member There must be a lot more fluorescent lights in Southeast Asia than here. Shot partially in "millennial blue." Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow, brooding crime drama has wonderful atmosphere and terrific performances but the plot is rather bland. However, it appears that director's Wang's intention was never to tell a story but to construct a mood, which he does so admirably. Interesting, but nothing truly striking.
