Rory O Some of the reviews, one in particular, likens the actor playing Cohen's voice to that of a ventriloquist. Clearly the reviewer must never have heard Cohen speak or ramble because that is exactly what he does, and what he sounds like. I recommend the reviewer watch his acceptance speech for the Principe de Asturias award which is available on YouTube. Personally I would like to have seen more of the development of his guitar style than the snatches we are given in the series because it was that which made him famous in the end, not the hours he spent bashing away at his typewriter. Cohen comes across as a strangely "normal" but complex character at the same time (which he was) - he enjoys a beer and looking at women but his head is wracked by god knows what, I can only think it's something that is part of his Jewish legacy but I for one can't tap into it, and nor do I really want to. I've had enough of Irish Catholic Guilt to last me a lifetime without delving into this. My sympathy for Marianne and the way she is portrayed in the series is immense. Maybe today she would be a famous model and not worry unduly about Axel or Leonard. Still, she loved Cohen deeply, put up with far too much and in the end was the muse without whom Songs From A Room would never have existed. I don't know much about her life post-Leonard although I remember clips of her in the front row at one of his concerts in Olso in the 2000s. As a last word, I would like to say that I throughly engaged with this series, and I hope you do too. RIP Leonard and Marianne. Thanks for what you gave us. His performance looks contrived as he imitates Leonard Cohen with a stiff ventriloquist like speech which gets very annoying. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Two w Perhaps this series was a task too difficult of the script writer and the actors who had to deliver this less than engaging dialogue. There are few documentaries featuring Leonard Cohen so my advice would be to seek them out and not insult yourself by watching this series. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/30/24 Full Review Herbert R Couldn't get beyond the first 15 minutes of amateurish miscast acting before bailing. Life is disappointing enough without seeking it out. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review jimmy m Pathetic attempt that does not do justice to the legacy of Leonard. Amateurish acting. One dimensional actors, hardly any references to the role played by traditional Greek folklore in his music and hardly any Greeks! Top it if an abundance of stage sets badly done. A travesty of the legacy of the man. To be avoided. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
