In 1910s New York, small-town denizen Ernie (Henry Morgan) ; his wife, Ella (Virginia Grey) ; and his sister-in-law, Kate (Dona Drake) are bestowed a surprise inheritance. The three go to the big city to spend their newfound money, but they soon encounter ruthless con artist Herbert (Rudy Vallee), who puts the moves on Ernie's sister. Ernie, however, is smarter and less gullible than he looks, and the crooks have an unexpectedly hard time bilking the three out of their fortune.
