Playing out in real time, SOFT & QUIET is a runaway train that follows a single afternoon in the life of an elementary school teacher, Emily, who organizes an inaugural club meeting of like-minded women. When they all decide to move the meeting to Emily's house to keep the wine flowing, they stop at the local store to pick up refreshments. Within 90 minutes, their monstrous worldview turns them into murderous home invaders, and though the timeframe is arguably an exaggeration, it gets the point across succinctly.

I could actually feel my stomach churning and see my arms trembling as I held them over my face ... I was anticipating a lot of discomfort and hard-to-watch moments in Soft & Quiet, but this film exceeded even those expectations.

It had potential but the script was predictable and became simplistic and boring. The characters were wooden and unconvincing. A missed opportunity.

I guess the filming style isn’t for everyone, it is hard to get used to but wow, what a story, and the ending? I was hoping for it and there it was. After watching this I have to wonder how many women there are in the USA right now that are just like these women, likely many and it’s a horrifying thought.

What a gem. Movies like FUNNY GAMES or IRREVERSIBEL are- despite their greatness as film-almost unwatchable ... because we do not like to see the horror of reality.

I had no idea what i was about to watch, it just said thriller/ horror and yikes....I was very surprised and had a very visceral reaction. I don't know if I would have been as impressed if i knew what to expect but the shock and discomfort of what was happening really disturbed and moved me. Very timely. Your political views will decide your opinion of this film.

Good idea, poorly executed. Could have been 100 more creative ways to go about it, and could have been 100 times more shocking considering what is dealt with in this movie. The approach orignally felt very good for let's say the first 45 minutes. Then the train derails and we enter the void of creativity, into a cliché, untasteful plot that in my opinion doesn't really reflect the insidiousness (or even the reality) that the movie is attempting to depict through these women. The beginning was smart, and shocking. The last half was boring and expected while also missing the point it was trying to make. Indeed, Soft and Quiet would have been 10 times scarier if the movie had actually focused on the dangerousness and efficacy of that "soft and quiet" façade instead of going in head first into the most expected and least original plot that anyone could have expected from a movie dealing with such an important aspect of American Society. Too bad.
