I wanted this to be better than it is. Interesting concept, trippy visuals, but I just couldn’t root for the protagonist at all, and that made it lose tension. I wish more time has been spent on the Mysterious Entity and less time had been spent on a relationship failure that was clearly the main character’s fault.

One again: an example of a garbage remake of a near-perfect classic, simply because American audiences are scared out of their pyjamas at the prospect of having to (gasp!) read subtitles (or lean another language). Just do yourself a favour and skip this unfortunate object lesson for Bad Reasons for Remakes and instead watch Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1972 masterpiece with its title anglicised as “Solaris” (certified “fresh” at 93% from critics/89% from audience).
