Variety Staff Variety A charming, witty, passionate romantic drama about a love transcending space and time, Somewhere In Time is an old-fashioned film in the best sense of that term. Dec 10, 2007 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Director Jeannot Szwarc strains hard for spectacular visual effects, though he's barely able to compose a competent close-up. Dec 10, 2007 Full Review Time Out This must go down as a missed opportunity. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review John Brosnan Starburst Somewhere In Time, like its central character, is out of its proper time and place. It's an interesting experiment, and a brave one, but one that was doomed to fail in 1981. Jul 26, 2022 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Somewhere in Time is murky and underwritten. The basic premise would be thin even for a Harlequin romance. Rated: 2/4 Apr 25, 2022 Full Review Kenneth Turan New West/California Sloppy where it should be sure, crudely drawn where it should be sensitive, careless around the edges with extraneous bits of business, the film takes the audience's complicity for granted and loses its grasp in the process. Mary F I have never seen a worse flop than this mess… honestly I had to laugh at just how bad it was! If you want to see a truly, lovely and believable romantic film, try A Room With A View, by Merchant-Ivory, that is worth seeing! Romantic films should not require you to ‘suspend your disbelief’ for two hours…..and you really have to suck it up with this, ugh. I’d rather watch paint dry…. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Mary S A fairy tale beautiful scripted to John Barry's music. There's no one like him. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Don D The most romantic movie ever made and my all-time favorite! With wonderful music by John Barry and Sergei Rachmaninoff. It makes you want to take off for the Grand Hotel in Michigan Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Carol S Great movie! Not your usual love story..it’s better!
