Martin Hoyle Time Out Rated: 4/6 Oct 28, 2006 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Son of Man boils down the life of Jesus Christ to 86 concise minutes, restoring layers of political motivation largely absent from The Passion of the Christ and adding stirring original vocal music. Jan 27, 2006 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com A remarkable, inspiring, and unique film that will inspire Christians and non-Christians alike. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 23, 2020 Full Review Dorothy Woodend The Tyee (British Columbia) This film is stunningly beautiful, and the fact that Jesus' experiences fit so perfectly into the contemporary black township points to the inherently political nature of this story. Aug 23, 2017 Full Review Eric D. Snider EricDSnider.com The film is worth watching just to see how the story is adapted, and for the elements that give it a National Geographic flair. Rated: B- Feb 21, 2006 Full Review Michael Ferraro Film Threat The religious set will certainly enjoy this vividly colorful new take on Jesus but the film sort of limits itself from the rest of us. Audience Member Beautiful retelling of the Story of Christ. An important piece as it takes viewers out of their comfort zone in its modernization of the events that make up Christ's public ministry, including his death and resurrection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Son of Man is a compelling take on a modern day, African Jesus. At times, it feels like a documentary with its implementation of newscasts. However, as with all Jesus films, it does a great job capturing the "son of man" and showing how his message would play in a place torn apart by civil war and in-fighting. However, the film suffers from being poorly paced and having truly odd editing techniques resulting in the film completely lacking any type of flow. While the acting is fine and the Jesus story is well told, this two negatives far outweigh those positives and result in a decidedly dull experience. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member very powerful throughout the movie bur very good Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member The setting and music gives it some flavor while the characterizations might take a bit of a back seat. Dare I say it, it's more interesting than Pasolini's movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a great depiction of the life and death of Christ using a current day African perspective. The film has very little dialogue but is driven by awesome imagery, music and talent. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit in your face, but set off the beaten path just enough to make this worth seeing. I'm very glad I saw it.
