Audience Member the last dancing scene is killing me - together with the background music - "Insa Rudolph - In Between". You need to know both culture from the western and eastern in order to understand this deep movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member The tale of a love affair between a Hong Kong delivery boy and a Swiss expat petty thief is told here in a non-linear format with not much success. It is shot well and the two leads aren't bad, but the mess of an edit leaves you a bit, "eh?!" It took reading the movie info on here to actually figure out what the fudge it was all about and I'm still not quite positive. Give it a miss. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Wing Kit Hung's debut feature is a fascinating watch. It's a mysterious, poetic and moving story; the line between reality/memory and imagination is so intriguingly blurred that you're left confused and overwhelmed at the same time, till the very end. And it's supposed to be like that. The movie is about moving on, and the heart-wrenching and difficult journey we have to tread to achieve that. It has a brilliant and captivating soundtrack. The acting is commendable. The scenes are shot and edited quite well. The movie seems an achingly real portrayal of love, loss and life. The climax, the scenes along with the music, is spellbinding. It's a not a perfect movie; the movie is flawed in so many ways. The plot and the storytelling style is too ambitious for a first-time Director. The three stories set in Hong Kong, Switzerland and Beijing are not developed clearly, and the relationships lack depth and detail; and they seem to spiral out of control without any evident reason. Though many of the things in the central relationship of Ricky and Pascal are subtle and unclear, their scenes are shot with great visual poetry. The story is intensely personal, and the autobiographical overtones only make sense to the director and not properly conveyed to the audience. The relevance and meaning of the opening and ending scenes, with the old couple, still elude me. Well, in spite of its drawbacks, I personally think it's a good film and a great attempt. The blurred lines and mystery just add to its beauty. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Bernhard Bulling did a great performance. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I lost my patience with this film and this is very rare for me! I actually fast forwarded the last ten minutes of this film. Where do I start? Slow-paced, confusing plot, extremely unlikable characters, annoying overuse of close-ups and hand-held camera. Avoid! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Definitely not one of the better Chinese (or gay) films to have been produced in recent years. Interesting nonetheless to have been juxtaposed in my viewing this weekend of Black Swan, since both deal with the issues of confusion between reality and confusion. But the comparison would have to stop right there. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
