What to Know

Critics Consensus

Speed 2 falls far short of its predecessor, thanks to laughable dialogue, thin characterization, unsurprisingly familiar plot devices, and action sequences that fail to generate any excitement.

mark g $150 million budget in 1997 and this is what you get? I mean, they got stars. Ultimately though, the thing that dooms this film is the reason why Keanu Reeves turned it down, awful script/story. Mindless fun, I guess. However, the tedious and monotonous nature of the film kinda kills the fun. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Michael J A seriously under appreciated, underrated movie. Siskel and Ebert gave a 2 thumbs! Don't understand the negative reviews. Its Jan De Bont directed, which is never ever a bad time period. The guy is tremendous at keeping you glued to the edge of your seat. His film lineup is stellar.. Its funny, features a young deaf actress who funny funny and talented, Jason Patrick, Sandra Bullock, Willem Dafoe(as a complete nut, my favorite style of his), and a cast of seriously good actors. Its action packed, funny, and fun. It also uses a real cruiseship not a made up one like some movies. A ship that is still in operation today!(2024) Its a good addition to the line of ship disaster movies that there really aren't enough of. (Another i recommend thats under appreciated is Deep Rising) I just had to pick this up on Blu-ray and its does it much justice. I even watched it in theaters when it was first released and my mom enjoyed it with me and she's not into action movies at all. Its kind of ashame it gets so much negative reviews when its anything but a terrible movie and doesn't deserve such terrible rating. A must watch if you like Jan De Bont or a good 🍿 film! Highly recommended. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Joe M Corny, unbelievable, bad dialogue. I like ships hence two stars… otherwise it would be one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review This Old G Why is this movie called speed? Why is there no Keanu Reeves? Why does this take place on a cruise ship? Why was this movie made other than to make money from the name and to give Sandra Bullock a big paycheck? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/03/24 Full Review Liam D As slow as a cruise boat. This laughable sequel to the really entertaining speed has non existent writing, awful acting and boring action Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Lucas t I mean it's fine, Willem Dafoe is in it and he makes this otherwise generic film enjoyable. It's not that bad. 6.2/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
