Glenn Whipp Los Angeles Times Although much of the film's broad humor at times makes it feel like an unwanted mash-up of "Scary Movie" and "Date Movie," writer-director Hwang In-ho invests the material with enough clever scenarios to keep it engaging. Rated: 3/5 Dec 15, 2011 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International An understandable hit in its country, this Korean rom-com/horror film charmingly sneaks its way under your skin. Tony S Cliche characters with familial korean gloss. Lighthearted mix of genres, where horror elements are a crutch for romantic development and conflict. Bland if cute romance that needlessly stretched out for spooks, where even ghost abilities and actions are inconsistent. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/21 Full Review Audience Member a little bit spooky despite starting off prestige-ously. not a bad show but definitely not the "romcom" it was classified to be. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member It loses some steam towards the end, but there's lots of laughs and plenty of charm. Definitely worth watching. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Yu-ri, who can sense ghosts, became an inspiration to a street magician Jo-gu's horror magic show. Jo-gu made a huge success with it and he gets closer to Yu-ri despite the threats of ghosts around her. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member ''Korkudan uyuyamaman?n ne kadar yorucu oldu?unu biliyor musun? A??k olmazlar. Çünkü film yaln?z olduklar?nda daha korkunç olur. Ama senden korkuldu?unu dü?ünmek. Kalbimi ac?t?yor. San?r?m sana a??k oldum bile." Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not that fond of horror movies, but this one was very good beacuse it actually was a mix of rom-com and horror. One minute I was laughing my ass of or being sentimental over the nice moments the lead characters, Yeo-ri (Son Ye-jin) and Joo-go (Lee Min-ki) have, only to cover myself from the ghosts in the next minute. Well done director Hwang In-ho! Spellbound may seem like a mash-up of Scary Movie and Date Movie, but I in my opinion Spellbound has more deep than those movies, so I really recommend you watch it! ;) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
