Chase Burns The Stranger (Seattle, WA) I say go into it for the visual density, the mid-2000s vibes, and Chou's bold point of view. Feb 1, 2022 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter What begins as a quirky cyber-sex romantic tease turns darker and more intriguing as director Zero Chou plays all her cards... May 22, 2020 Full Review Pamela Jahn Electric Sheep Although it is explicitly about the tentative romance between two young women, Spider Lilies touches upon the polarities that underlie all human relationships: honesty and dishonesty, trust and distrust, concession and repression. Audience Member Beautifully written lesbian drama. Don't expect anything exciting but the story blends well and kept me wanting to find out if their love flourish. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member i hated this movie. >: ( waste of 1.5 hours of my life. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting storyline for a film base on female homosexuality. Both actresses actually did a pretty good job. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review don s My first Chinese film. A bit of an unusual topic, but decent. Interesting nuances by the actresses made the love genuine. Not complex by any means, however the pacing was fast enough to hold my interest throughout. A worthwhile introduction to films from this land. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Watch it again... still not very impressed with the movie.. I think this movie was not my cup of tea.. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member With Splendid Float director Zero Chou got everybody's attention, which allowed her to work with both bigger budget and bigger stars in her second feature. Spider Lilies is like it's predecessor essentially a gay love story, but without making a statement about it, and a much more ambitious work, which turns out to be one of it's major faults. Chen sin-Ging is known for his ambitious screenplays, but Spider Lilies can hardly contain every subplot and existential question he asks here. Since Splendid Float, Chou also seems to have developed a taste for heavy symbolism, which makes the themes oddly distant and abstract. Luckily, some of the terrific campiness that made Splendid Float such an enjoyable movie, remains in the magnificent form of Rainie Yang's webcam hottie.
