Excellent as unexpected. Jake's a miscast, though. He tries his best, but still....... far from home!

The biggest issue this movie has is with its villain. I guess I won't spoil it, but really if you've read the comics, played the games, or just googled any of the character names of people in this movie you know who it is and yet they treat it like this big reveal. The first movie had something of a villain reveal too, but they handled it in such a way that it really worked. Here, it just doesn't. On top of that, his motives and overall goals are a little difficult to follow. Regardless, it's still a helluva fun ride. His missions were some of the ones I enjoyed the most in the Spider-Man games, and it allows for some truly mind-bending trippy visuals later in the film. That's where the film shines the highest, in its warped inception-ey trip-out sequences. Also, in it's character moments with the heroes. Tom Holland is still the best Spider-Man, and damnit all Zendaya is really winning me over. Those two are just really cute, and their developing relationship is charming as hell. That relationship and seeing Spidey try to fill Tony's shoes (spoilers) is great stuff. It's another solid, if not perfect, Spider-Man film.

Marvel yet again introduce an interesting villain before leaving them standard, with a horrible exposition monologue I might add. Spider-Man 2 is still the best film adaptation of the material and showcases what can be accomplished with an accomplished filmmaker. The main concern is the lack of depth for the villain, a constant issue in Marvel's universe. I don't understand why they feel the need to keep the hero front and centre. The hero tends to be either having some self doubt, love issue, injury or depression, which hampers there abilities. I have never understand why the villain is side lined, bizarre. This could've been a great film and coming out from Avengers Endgame was a tough task. The film is visually creative, but it's the same thing again. Marvel are starting to run the risk of tiresome troupes and clichés on their own films. I hope they cover more of his backstory for number 3 and instead of making another empty shell villain, they give us a solid thought provoking one. 24/09/2019

Spider-Man hits the road in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Peter Parker's European school trip is interrupted when a superhero named Mysterio, who's from an alternate Earth, shows up and asked for his help to defeat an Elemental. Unfortunately, as the first post-Endgame Marvel film, Far From Home has the extra burden of resetting the Marvel Universe; which comes off as kind of awkward in this story about a high school trip. And while it does some good things with Parker dealing with the loss of his mentor (Tony Stark), there's too much Iron Man in this Spider-Man movie. A mess from start to finish (though still entertaining), Spider-Man: Far From Home is disappointing both as a MCU film and a Spider-Man film.
