      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Led by a nuanced performance from Chelsea Peretti, Spinster offers a refreshingly three-dimensional -- and often very funny -- picture of modern single life.

Cody H If you like acting that resembles "giving up" with a hefty dose of "why am I here", this is a great movie. Much like her comedy, its obvious that her style is disinterested ambivalence mixed with narcolepsy. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Josh G A akward and fun dry co.edy with little energy and heavy on the satire and light on character. It relates more to adults than you'd think might be realistic and haunting woth a splash of visual magic. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Nancy I appreciated this alternative story line. Two stand out parts for me: the conversation about having a baby (finally, it was the main character that said something that resonated with my take on children) and the ending scene on her hike with her dog and the stranger she met. Both very unique and I appreciated this film a lot for telling an alternative story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/22 Full Review Karen C The best movie ever. I give it a high 5 stars! Very funny, entertaining, and action packed. Spinsters like me will love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/22 Full Review Audience Member This is one of those films you put on when you're bored at least that's what I thought but honestly I was really impressed with it. I was so happy with the ending and I really feel this is a must see from a woman's point of view. The main character is a little blasé but she is at the same time like able. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I assumed that about 15 min into the movie that I was not going to enjoy Chelsea's character but quickly warmed up to her mundane, somewhat sarcastic humor. She's 39 and single in the movie and Ok with it... which you don't get to see in movies very often but doesn't lack a very happy ending. I really loved the movie and wish there were more like it. Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's minor, but fun. Aug 18, 2020 Full Review Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A very low-key but likable and nontraditional rom-com. Aug 18, 2020 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Peretti is more successful here than the film itself. Rated: 2/4 Aug 9, 2020 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse A nicely crafted, if somewhat modest, story of looking for and finding satisfaction in one own life, no matter what others say. It's about a certain kind of love, but colours outside the rom com lines to create something refreshing. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 29, 2021 Full Review Natasha Alvar Cultured Vultures Andrea Dorfman's Spinster is the perfect platform for Peretti's charms and humour, and offers a socially relevant take on female singlehood. Rated: 6.5/10 Jan 29, 2021 Full Review Nicola Austin JumpCut Online Overall Spinster is an insightful and well written indie film which highlights the overused stereotypes in the genre, featuring a brilliant debut lead from Peretti.
