Spiral: From the Book of Saw suggests an interesting new direction for the Saw franchise, even if the gory sum is rather less than its parts.

The story's somewhat predictable and the ending may disappoint, but this new beginning for the Saw franchise delivers enough of the good stuff to keep fans satisfied.

Engin O Pretty solid saw movie, harkens back to the early entries with more focus on the detective perspective and the soapy twisty story. I liked it a lot, hope to see more. Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review I like being scared; what I don't particularly like is being grossed or winced out. May 24, 2021 Full Review tt stern-enzi WXIX-TV (Cincinnati, OH) I have to admit, I liked this film...and a great opportunity to get back into a theater. May 24, 2021 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian Director Darren Lynn Bousman, on his fourth Saw film, keeps things fresh while also nodding, via the pig mask and a scene involving handcuffs and a hacksaw, to where it all began in 2004. Rated: 3/5 May 24, 2021 Full Review Cris Parker 3C Films (Youtube) The real trap was presenting something new, only to be given the same formulaic Saw movie once again. The added humor and talent does make this better than most Saw entries. Aug 9, 2023 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Spiral might offer enough blood, gore, and brutal traps/murders to fans of the franchise, but overall it's still just another lazy, predictable take on the SAW formula. A strong yet abrupt ending doesn't compensate for such dull storytelling.
