Paul Freitag-Fey Daily Grindhouse It could easily bore anyone who isn't willing to just sit back and enjoy (illicit substances may help) but it looks beautiful. Aug 5, 2019 Full Review J.R. Southall Starburst When the project gets underway a sense of (ultimately bittersweet) hope is added to the narrative, but the score and pacing could have done with something a little different in the middle to break up the monotony. Wayne K The directorial debut for Alex Proyas of The Crow, Dark City, I Robot and, ahem, Gods Of Egypt, Spirit Of The Air, Gremlins Of The Clouds may have a title I still don’t understand, but it has an appeal that I can see. As someone who lived in Australia and worked in the Outback, it captures the vivid colours, huge skies and sheer desolation and emptiness of the place, and the pacing is appropriately unhurried. There’s something of a stiltedness to the story and the writing, with long stretches where little happens, and it feels like the film is dragging its feet to get to the next point. The religion fanaticism element isn’t explored any further than one character calling another a demon and holding a cross one time, and the film’s reluctance to explain what or who Smith is running from and why means the films doesn’t really have any dramatic stakes. It works more as an experimental mood piece than it does as a narrative driven story, so don’t go into it expecting a plot that’s going to suck you in. If you can tune into its wavelength, it’s an interesting little indie flick that offers up some memorable moments and some very striking visuals. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review camille l Le premier film d'Alex Proyas, Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds est aussi beau que son titre. Tour à tour inquiétant, hilarant et surtout étouffant, Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds est une expérience extrêmement intéressante, parfois même passionnante malgré le manque d'enjeu dramatique fort. C'est une curiosité à découvrir absolument. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
