Stephen Romei The Australian It takes some interesting ideas, such as monogamy versus open relationships, adds general coupledom anxieties, but fails to follow through on them in any meaningful way. Rated: 2/5 Sep 12, 2025 Full Review Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald But everything that happens in Splitsville is so remote from real human behaviour I couldn’t care less about any of these characters... Rated: 1.5/5 Sep 10, 2025 Full Review Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times This is a highly enjoyable work... it boasts that entertaining and eye-catching visual style that Covino had already employed in his debut film, confirming his talent for offering proposals of unquestionable cinematic value. [Full review in Spanish] Sep 4, 2025 Full Review Travis Hopson Punch Drunk Critics Splitsville nimbly weaves sincerity and romantic hijinks, although the balance is out of whack in the closing stretch. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 12, 2025 Full Review Simon Miraudo Movie Squad (RTRFM 92.1) A very funny, brute force satire about the fact there's no such thing as an evolved person. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 12, 2025 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Daily Telegraph (Australia) The screenplay for Splitsville (co-written by Marvin and Covino, who also directs) is sharply insightful when it comes to detonating the many implosions promised by a very amusing concept. Kent and Carli This was an interesting one. No real plot or point but it was still entertaining. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Celluloid Hero "Splitsville" is an appropriate title for a film that had me pondering a serious question as I sat in my theatre seat: should I stay or should I go? Superficial characters. Poor script. Mediocre acting (being kind here given the poor script). And most importantly, a theme that gives a thumbs-up to being unfaithful and dishonest as a way to self-enlightenment in affirming true love. Really? The film is billed as a comedy, but there is little to laugh about with the exception of the first few scenes. Drama? Only if you care about who ends up with whom (which raises the question as to why anyone would care what happens to shallow, unsympathetic characters). The ending doesn't come fast enough as the film rambles on trying to find its footing. I tend to be selective in the movies I review, saving my observations for the great ones or pulling back the curtain on films rated highly by critics that turn out to be not so great. How this movie earned a rating of 85% by people paid to inform us on the quality of new releases is above my pay grade. The only thing positive I can say about "Splitsville" is that I didn't split before the closing credits. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Jen So fun! Great acting and a well written story. Havent laughed this much during a movie in a long time. Definitely recommend it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Ghederick Eshmont A very fun, edgy film descends into contrived gender politics & 4th wave women’s lib, when keeping on track would have proven much more fulfilling in its subversion Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review Hearts-Of-Space Went in blind. Hadn't seen a trailer or any promotional material. Not usually a huge fan of rom-coms, but I really enjoyed this movie. Great acting, writing, story, tone. It was actually funny, too! I recommend this movie to anyone, really. It's a well-rounded, fun movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/25 Full Review Paul Weirdly funny and thought provoking.
